All booked up

25 October 2012
Today I booked my ticket out of the UK. Although I expect to come back, the odds are that it will be as a visitor rather than a returner. Although partly long-overdue world experience, there are a lot of push factors.

For quite some time I have been disillusioned with the UK economy, and the UK political climate in general, and this has been reinforced by my experience in having set foot in three other continents. I was able to see and do things that in the UK would be non-starters due to a combination of cost, risk aversion, and/or regulation. The real killer is that at no point did I miss the UK, let alone Bristol.

It is never easy leaving your native country, but in all my years I have come to the conclusion that if you want a change there is only one way to vote: With your feet.
